Madia & Matilda S/S'14: Bespoke and Upcycled

After the recent phenomenal viral response to the Fashion Revolution Day campaign which saw
consumers putting designers and brands into the spotlight over their products, the idea of
sustainable and ethical fashion is now being deemed ‘in’. Luckily, Madia & Matilda is a unique
luxury upcycling vintage label, which creates clothes from one off, precious garment & textiles
using all elements of craft and designs.

Madia & Matilda, originally based in the charming Cotswolds, was created by Shalize Nicholas, a
designer who graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University after working within the
fashion industry for designers and retailers including Mary Katrantzou.

Shalize believes “luxury upcycled and bespoke garments are the way forward for sustainability
and the revival of forgotten traditions”. The new collection features jumpsuits, dresses, blouses
and capri pants created from one off, precious garments and textiles using all elements of crafts
and designs. With hints of vintage-esque meets charm, the collection boasts elegant and regal
looking pieces. Simple to wear and uncomplicated with its breath of fresh air feel about it, Madia
and Matilda offers more than simply ethical fashion but beautiful, simple fashion that makes a
statement.

Based on vintage designs, each piece in the collection is designed with the most meticulous
details, using recycled garments, eco friendly and remnant fabrics. Certainly, Madia & Matilda
proves to the fashion industry that upcycled garments can be transformed into creations of
beauty and art.
