6th-9th November marks a special date in the fashion calender and for a valid reason too.
The BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) has teamed up with London College of Fashion to establish a new fashion film strand at this year’s event, showcasing inspirational collections, stories and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the creative process at designer stores.
Refreshingly exclusive to ASFF, there will be the opportunity to satiate the appetite of fashion followers as the film festival has now introduced a fashion strand which will dedicate itself to surveying a range of industry topics alongside pioneering films from highly esteemed brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Swarovski, Karen Millen and Louise Vuitton.
What will be running on the four day long programme?
Visitors, businesses and press alike will be left feeling inspired from the power of fashion film what with the inclusion of a master class with filmmaker and curator Kathryn Ferguson. A notorious figure amongst the BFC Fashion Film panel, creating films for leading brands and designers ranging from Selfridges to Chloe and for artists from the likes of Sinead O'Connor to Lady Gaga, Kathryn will be sharing her exceptional industry tips and discussing fashion's wider impact on society and on visual culture so be sure not to give this exciting opportunity a miss!
Not only will ASFF be hosting Kathryn but Wendy B, a successful costume designer who has worked with the likes of Paloma Faith and Jessie J as well as advertising campaigns for companies such as MTV and Film 4 will be imparting her wise words from a fashion perspective.

What will you be able to see?
Films will range amongst leading agencies including White Loge, Solab and Partizan and will be contextualised in an introduction to the inagural screenings which will be happening on Friday 7 November. These will be by two filmmakers from Ridley Scott Associates and Sara Wilson, Stylist and Photography Manager at luxury fashion house, Jigsaw. Screening at Reel, 1331 and King’s Manor is Matin Lunaire (2014) by Clément Oberto.
Matin Lunaire (Moony Morning) is a suspended moment, the seeming paradox of a moon, visible in the sky during the day time. A mysterious universe lost between dreams and reality. An epic poem, constantly transforming, in which colors, beauty and sweetness come together.

This stylish collection of films reflects a continued interest of Aesthetica Magazine in recognising the creativity and innovation involved in the fashion and design industry. The publication has often highlighted important exhibitions such as Hello my name is Paul Smith at the Design Museum and The Future of Fashion is Now at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. ASFF’s new fashion film line-up creates a timely focus on this genre as creators are playing with its identity and redefining its possibilities.
