It’s time to metamorphose. Extravagance and elegance. Magic
and make-believe. Finery, sequins and flashes of folly. And boy did Hermes bring that to fruition at
its inaugural Silk Ball on June 26th. What promised to be a
rambunctious night was indeed a night to be dazzled by as Hermes showcased how
their silks come alive once they emerge from those famous orange boxes. Hermes is
known worldwide for its high quality, luxurious clothing and leather goods as
well as for its incredible, meticulously crafted silk scarves. Of course, Hermes went one step forward and brought the world of fashion a taster of the Hermes lifestyle showering Koko Camden with a little sprinkle of H lovin'.
The dress code on the invite had a cutout of a
mask which read ‘Beauty or Beasts/Masks and Headdresses/Silk
Scarves/Fantastical Makeup and guests did not fail to disappoint when it came
to the fashion stakes. Servers offered guests all sorts of deliciously exotic treats before they
were whisked away and spellbound by the enchanting models sporting eclectic headdresses
and masks gracing the floors of Koko.
Held
at music venue Camden’s Koko which was transformed into a circus-esque soiree
meets Moulin Rouge, guests sashayed through the winding Hermes silk scarf
tunnel in a parade of masks. Koko resembled an enormous chocolate gateaux, with
several layers of silk laden indulgences with the offerings proving more delicious on your
way to the top.
There
was a dance floor and Vogue dance instructors encouraging guests to dance the
night away as well as a photography space allowing Hermes lovers and guests to don the
notorious lavish Hermes scarf against a matching background and have their
picture taken. Guests were treated to complimentary cocktails, tarot readers, complimentary makeup to match the theme and the entertainment of visual artist and fashion illustrator Clara Gomez who
live illustrated guests' outfits. Susie Bubble, who hosted a social media competition giving the public a chance to win an invite to this prestigious event attended also.
Then
there were the fantastical characters laden in silk costumes roaming the
floors. Models adorned in a colour patchwork of a horse masks and lavishly
coloured bird cages stole the show as guests posed for photographs with them
capturing Hermes in all its entirety: wonderful, extravagant and glamorous. Waiting
staff tended to the famished with humble offerings of lobster and chips, mini
burgers, scallops and all sorts.
On the second level, a spread of delectable
deserts including pistachio ladened sundaes and pastel coloured macaroons were
spread out for prying eyes to take. At the very top floor of the cake tier style setting, one could be painted
and tattooed by recent graduates of Central St Martins, keen to transform you
into Hermes adorned magical spirits.
When it came to deciding on what to wear to stick to the dress code, I confess I read the invite and considered myself to be ‘adventurous beauty addicts
seeking the next exciting fashion thrill’, we decided to share Phyllis Cohen,
designer’s vision and try Face Lace. Face Lace adorns your face with
mind-blowing makeup in just minutes instantly transforming you into an It Girl.
It received so many compliments as the crystallised design along with the
intricacy of it proved to be sophisticated, striking and glamorous enough for
such an event like Hermes and I will definitely be using
Face Lace again for any events!
I wore a Moroccan dress from Ferry's Boutique as the colours, design of it and pattern matched the dress code perfectly and I'm glad I chose such an unusual style of dress to wear to such an event as it struck a chord amongst the fashion masses and strayed away from the typical LBD/cocktail dress one may sport at such an event.
Of course, as nothing less expected from Hermes, the Silk Ball ended
with a bang, where silk confetti showers ladened the guests’ hair and frolicked
in the air leaving us with a taste of wanting more from Hermes…
Have a watch of the fantastic Vogue dancers from the night.
