ADA + NIK SEIZE THE NIGHT AT LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN SS15

LONDON – 15 JUNE 2014 Sunday 15th June at the St Martins Lane Hotel saw rebellious dark matter menswear brand Ada and Nik close the first day of London Collections: Men with their Spring Summer 2015 runway show 'Carpe Noctem'.

What sets menswear duo Ada and Nik apart from the rest in the designer game is the sheer popularity of the brand in less than a year with the success of celebrity endorsement at such an early stage of the brand life. Ada Zanditon and Nik Thakkar, designer duo evidently possess a passion and flair for noir-inspired aesthetics.

Sunday evening's show was brimming with guests including the likes of leading fashion tastemakers Miles Aldridge, Ella Catliff, Elarica Gallacher and Oliver Walker. The brilliant model casting kept guests on the edge of their seat as not only were they certainly striking in their looks but memorable in their attire.  The collection was styled by Alexis Knox with model casting by Jay Best

Remarked "the most refreshing new menswear line to emerge in recent years”, “ones to watch” and “the future of menswear”,  designer brand Ada and Nik combines the likes of 60 pieces including signature, structural outwear with high quality Italian leather, high performance lightweight luxury fabrics including upcycled shower-proof trenches and hydrophobic cotton with a high performance silver wash.

Especially admirable was that the pieces appeared to be wearable and not so aesthetically distant from the likes of 'norm-wear' but equally creative enough that it stood out, especially gratifying for devotees to the aesthetically pleasing. Simultaneously boasting 15 years of combined expertise and co-created by two established industry influencers, Ada and Nik know what they are all about. Emblazoning oversized t-shirts, carefully crafted, tailored shorts, trousers and geometrically cut dark matter separates, the line also precedes a capsule line of commercial noir eyewear in collaboration with Toyshades and a leather jacket with NJOY e-cigarattes featuring a tailored NJOY pocket. Fashion that tackles the problem of 'in style' smoking? Sounds good to us.

It has to be mentioned that the unveiling of the SS15 collection wasn't without its surprise element, the premiere of art-house brand film 'Carpe Noctem' by film genius Oz Thakkar and Ada and Nik, starring actors Oliver Walker and Elarica Gallacher featuring Sam Alexander and Luca Ribezzo. The film combined sheer genius with an enchanting score by Daniel Rostrup and guests were inspired by the premiere encapsulating the Ada and Nik collection in all its entirety of perfection.

ZIGGY MORPHED INTO A SOUL BOY: HUNTERGATHER SS15 AT LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN SS15

68 Wigmore Street was packed with movers and shakers within the fashion realm and it is no surprise that Huntergather was the show to indulge this. Featuring an array of soul-boy silhouettes, curly perms and plastic sandals, the much loved pleated trousers, high-waisted and full summer knits tucked in, Huntergather showcased a display of intriguing designs.

Featuring an amalgamation of eclectic brights with animated patterns, the collection impressed in a startling way, catching the eyes of guests (including David Gandy) perusing Huntergathers' SS15 show.

The SS15 collection saw Matisse-esque jazzy appliqué cut-out motifs and a kaleidoscopic jigsaw of bright, earthy colours coupled with swanky R&B rhythms and the clamour and strut of local dance halls rendering the Huntergather SS15 collection psychedelic and one to keep your eyes on.

David Bradshaw, Huntergather founder and creative director remarked:

When David Bowie released 'Young Americans' he said he'd been inspired by the sounds of local dance halls. His new sound needed a new look, Ziggy morphed into a soul-boy, and got a new fan. You see, I knew those sounds, for I was a soul-boy too.
I remember talking about this with David Sims when we worked together on an editorial for an early issue of Arena Homme Plus, and we channelled this energy and attitude into the story, setting dance moves against a cut-out set. Much more recently I saw the Matisse cut-outs show at the Tate Modern. So full of energy and life, its vividness and vibrancy reminded me of those times.

Stay tuned for part 2 of the LCM diary featuring Chelsea Bravo, Beau Homme and Clare Martin. . .
