Finding herself drawn to the Victorian English heritage and envisioning
a brand for those who have a taste for luxury, Irina Bragin created the
wonderment that is Made of Carpet in September of 2010. Made of Carpet is a British
handbag company celebrating the uniqueness and extraodinare of British inspired
influences. However, Made of Cartpet comes with a unique flair, as its names
suggests. The handbags are meticiulously creafted from pieces of Oriental
carpets bringing an extremely phenomenal breath of fresh air to an otherwise
daily wardrobe piece.
Featuring an array of designs including the Mary Poppins bag, the
Weekend bag, the Gladstone models and purses, Bragin designs her bags to cater
to all needs, in all colours, sizes and shapes.
Rich patterns, prints and layered materials give these accessories a
Future folk feel, as Made of Carpets draw on the rich histories of different
cultures reinterpreting them for the modern era, to make a nostalgic style
statement which travels back to the past. Hand-crafted, eclectic, and richly
embroidered are the key essentials behind the brand. Made of Carpets have
combined the classic luxury with bohemian making it an amalgamation of two
styles which fuse together effortlessly thus making it the perfect style
statement.
Irina designs the Made of Carpet bags from real thick piled Oriental
rugs which have originally been made to be used for their intended purpose and
it is this creative thinking that has made Made of Carpets a success.
What indeed had made Irina start this brand? Speaking of her passion for bags
but never having the time and conditions to, being a ‘gypsy in soul’, she lived
in six different countries until she settled in Britain.
As a child marvelling
at the magical influences of the Victorian era’s fashion and art, charismatic
literary characters such as Miss Marple and Mary Poppins and the romance and
elegance of sixties style icons including Jackie O, Irina has fused together
historically rich influences with a flair for passion and creativity. Her
pieces evoke the nostalgia of days gone past in a world of modern designs
channelling the contemporary and lack of originality that comes with designer
brands.
The collection encompasses different styles in a variety of fanciful
patterns and colourful waves, woven from Oriental. It blends the multicultural
influences of her background with the quintessentially Poppins-esque culture of
Belgravia, Knightsbridge and Kensington, Irina reinvents a style that has been
“patiently awaiting renaissance”.
